Shannon's Grandfather registered the Lazy"s" brand in Oregon in 1903. His other Grandfather ran for Mayor of Portland Oregon and was only narrowly defeated in 1917.

Amid the spectacular beauty of the colorado foothills I tried several experiments which worked well in my judgement. I intensified slightly the shadow color which brightened the color in the light. I stayed away from stating the darks as dark as I would normally paint them, which gives the feel of a higher key, as though a very light veil is over everything, a worldly yet unworldly feel. I also painted everything with a painting knife to get a consistant feel in the paint itself. Later I went in with a brush to refine details.
